Recently a DAF member group, the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, held an advocacy day featuring a panel on climate change, social justice and the impact future policies would have on the environment. Our chairman, Sec. Rodney Slater spoke at this event and DAF staff caught up with the Executive Director of LCLAA as well as a LCLAA leader and UAW member to discuss their ideas about fuel efficiency legislation and the economy.

Harry Alford, President and CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce test drove a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle with Justin Walraven, hydrogen vehicle engineer. Advanced technologies and alternative fuels are the right way to solve the problems related to emissions and energy dependence and this video demonstrates the great benefits that use of hydrogen vehicles can bring:

August 27, 2007 There’s been a lot of talk on Capitol Hill about energy bills and fuel economy regulations. We thought it would be interesting to see what people outside of Congress think about these important issues.

On August 22nd the United Auto Workers held a rally in St. Louis to support HR 2927, fuel economy legislation sponsored by Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN) and Lee Terry (R-NE). The following are speeches from elected officials, union members and automobile manufacturers that praise the Hill-Terry legislation because it will help the environment without costing thousands of autoworkers jobs.
